
Uncertainty and Lostness

Barry Schwabsky is art critic of The Nation and co-editor of international reviews for Artforum. He has published several books of poetry and a new one, Trembling Hand Equilibrium, is forthcoming from Black Square Editions, New York. A collection of critical essays on art writing and art writers, Words for Art: Criticism, History, Theory, Practice, was published in 2013 by Sternberg Press, Berlin. He has taught at Goldsmiths College, Yale University, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, among others, and was most recently visiting critic at the Leroy E. Hoffberger School of Painting, Maryland Institute College of Art, where he delivered a series of lectures on the idea of the mid career that will form the core of a new book in progress. This year he is co-directing a seminar on "Art and the Politics of Estrangement" at the Saas-Fee Summer Institute of Art, a new endeavor affiliated with the European Graduate School.
